Tanzania's Improved Community Health Fund: An Analysis of Scale-Up Plans and Design

Lee, B., K. Tarimo, and A. Dutta

Description:

Universal health coverage has become a major policy priority in Tanzania; HP+ has provided technical assistance to inform ongoing health insurance reform dialogue in the country. This study attempts to clarify the government of Tanzania's financing implications for scale-up of the Improved Community Health Fund (iCHF) that targets coverage for informal and regional households. These financing implications include improving access to health services for the poor and vulnerable through premium subsidies and alleviating threats to sustainability of the scheme through government matching funds. Generating this evidence will assist decision-makers in developing the final design of and approach for national rollout of the iCHF.
